MASW Seismic Sub-Surface (Soil & Rock) Imaging
Our civil, geotechnical, and structural engineers specialise in combining seismic imaging technology with traditional testing methods to give you the most accurate and reliable results regarding your property’s stability. As Australia’s only seismic survey company, we offer direct, cost-effective professional service with our civil, structural, and geotechnical consultants to give you reliable results.
Over the past few years, we have noticed an Australian industry-wide gap in consistently reliable subsurface imaging results. Seismic surveys use MASW technology to effectively ‘see’ through even concrete to provide a sub-surface profile down to the rock line of a site and beyond. Our sub-surface profiles can output data to reveal soil and rock profile up to 100 metres depth, if needed for your project.
We consider the test method the most reliable, economical and accurate, especially with the latest requirement of AS1726-2017, the Site Investigation Standard, to establish the geotechnical model of the building site. In cases of slope stability assessment, this test method is very helpful to establish if there has been previous landslide activity. The standard test line is about 25m long, but it can be chain linked to infinity. Using interpolation techniques, several parallel seismic lines can be dropped into SURFER SOFTWARE program to develop a 3D look a like model.
This investigation method, involves the use of seismic MASW (Multi-Channel Analysis of Surface Waves) survey techniques to provide an indication of the sub-surface profile, as per AS1726-2017, Appendix A (b) (ii). It is expected that the seismic imaging results should locate soil layers and the rock line. We have ten years of experience in this method. Items that may be detected are as follows.
- Depth to rock even if variable, and rock strength layering, up to 100metres, as required.
- Soft layers or pockets which may indicate water.
- Strength of soil materials.
- The method is geotechnically accurate, as proved again and again.
- Detection of boulders.
- Detection of voids.
- Accurate screw pier and concrete pier foundation depth determination.
We can provide imaging results in one dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional output to give you a complete picture of your sub-surface terrain.
